Can you get DNA from Fingernails?
Traditionally, the primary source of DNA for genetic study has been blood samples. However, this source’s collection, transportation, and long-term preservation might provide challenges. Here we looked at the possibility of using human nail clippings as a source of DNA for SNP genotyping. A single nail cutting can supply recipient DNA in sufficient amount and quality for the preliminary genotyping needed to identify meaningful molecular markers.
